“Where are we now?” Hod inquired.
“We are just getting onto lions gate
Bridge.” David replied. Hod had been asking where they were ever since he had
completed wrapping his hands with tape. The bridge was three lanes with green and
red arrows indicating the direction of traffic. The slow incline of the bridge
brought David and Hod up until David could see the setting sun its light
playing across the treetops and glitter of the water of the bay. Soon they were
on the bridge proper, going through one of the two green aches that held of the
cables, now they were over the water.
David glanced down at the tablet
that Ms. Lords had given them. The pulsing dot that indicated Clair still hadn’t
moved. When Ms. Lords had first given them the Tablet the dot that indicated Clair
had been speeding away. So fast, that David wasn’t sure if they would be able
to catch up to the not Clair. Shortly after giving chase though the dot had
slowed to a stop and hadn’t moved. Now they had almost caught up with whatever
the thing was that was impersonating Clair.
David could feel is stomach turning
to ice. He couldn’t help but get nervous. For as long as David had known Hod
they had experienced what they called spooks. Events that only seemed to affect
the two of them. One of the reasons that there friendship was so strong was because
they had worked through the weird times depending on each other. Now they were
about to face there biggest spook yet. David looked over at Hod. He looked so indomitable,
so determined to save Clair.
David smiled. Hod was unbelievably
strong, not only in body but his personality and mind. His gifts and talents
seemed to have no limits. He was incredibly smart, exceedingly fast and
athletic. He was aware of himself more than those around him. Sadly along with
his eyes, the strange things that seemed to happen around them the fact they he
was so smart and how he had better senses then most people seemed to deter
others rather than to attract them. With Hod alongside him David was sure that
they could overcome any challenge any obstacle or spook thrown in their way. David
was even sure they could escape hell if they had to. David needed Hod, he just
wished he could be more to Hod then a pair of eyes.
They passed through the second arch,
and then the lions that gave the Bridge its name. David took his first right
and then another right into a small almost empty parking lot.
“Are we there? Where are we?” Hod asked
incuriously.
“we are just past the bridge. We are
parked right outside a dinner.” David replayed. “Her signal is around here. Although
I don’t see her car.”
“Well will just have to get out and
look for her then.” Hod seemed to realize what he said. He cleared his throat
and tried again. “Well you’ll have to look. I’ll just have to not do anything
again.”
“Don’t say it like that Hod. Neither
one of us would have gotten this far by ourselves” David said. They both got
out of the car and Hod meet him at the back.
“Well you would have gotten a lot further
a lot faster than me. I would still be walking if you weren’t around.” Hod
replyed.
“And I would still be kissing some
not Clair.” David popped his trunk. Reaching down he pulled out a beat up
hickory bat. Everyone wondered why he carried it around. He never played
baseball, only Hod new the real reason. “Oh, sorry buddy.”
“Don’t worry about it, lets just find
her.” Hod said as David closed his trunk.
